This page provides a list of resources that employees may find useful during the government shutdown. This is not an exhaustive list, but a starting point in your search.

Unemployment Compensation

All (excepted and not excepted) federal government employees who were affected by the federal shutdown may file their initial claim online at www.dcnetworks.org. For further information please see FAQs Employees will need to provide a completed SF-8 and most recent SF-50 as a part of the application process. Please note that all unemployment compensation will need to be paid back at the conclusion of the shutdown.

BALTIMORE (October 1, 2025) - With the federal government shutdown now in effect, BGE is providing expanded bill payment support options to impact federal workers to help those customers manage their energy costs and avoid service disconnection.

Available support includes:

  • Flexible payment options: Impacted customers will be eligible for multiple      payment arrangements and budget billing plans.
  • Late payment charge waivers: A 30-day waiver on late payment charges      will be granted in increments for affected customers.
  • Streamlined verification: Customers will not be required to provide      government ID to access additional support measures.
  • Proactive assistance resources: Customers who contact BGE’s Care Center      will be proactively offered support services available through BGE’s      self-service Assistance Finder, which provides simple and personalized recommendations. 

Impacted federal workers are encouraged to contact BGE’s Customer Care team at 1-800-685-0123 for information about these support measures and how to access them.

BGE customers can visit bge.com/heretohelp for more ways to manage their bill, use energy more efficiently, or access energy assistance. 

  • Pepco

Pepco Providing Expanded Customer Support Measures Amid Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 1, 2025) - With the federal government shutdown beginning October 1, Pepco is providing impacted customers with enhanced resources and support measures to help manage energy bills and maintain service continuity. 

Available support includes:

  • Flexible payment options: Impacted customers can access payment arrangements for up to 12 months and budget billing plans to help manage monthly expenses and      avoid service disconnection. 
  • Late payment charge waivers: A 30-day waiver on late payment charges will be      granted in increments for affected customers. 
  • Streamlined verification: Customers will not be required to provide government ID to      access additional support measures. Government furlough characteristics      will be added to customer accounts to properly track impacted customers. 
  • Proactive Assistance Resources: Customers will be connected to agency assistance      programs and tools, including: 
    • Pepco's Assistance Finder tool which helps identify bill assistance and energy       efficiency programs that customers may qualify for. 
    • Single Stop, which helps customers quickly and privately check if they qualify       for other benefits, including help with housing, money, food, school, healthcare, childcare, taxes, utility bills, and more. Customers can access the tool anytime on their phone, tablet, or computer.

Impacted federal workers should contact Pepco's Customer Care team at 202-833-7500 for more information about these added support measures and how to access them. 

Pepco also Offers programs to support all customers and make it easier for them to track and manage their bills, including:

  • Pepco's Customer Relief Program offers eligible limited- and moderate-income      customers up to $300 in relief on their energy bill. 
  • With the Gift of Energy, anyone can make a payment toward a friend or family      member's energy bill. 
  • High-usage alerts enable customers to receive notifications when their usage is      trending higher than normal, helping them manage overall energy use. Additionally, energy-management tips are available to help customers save money now and on future energy bills. 
  • Energy efficiency offerings are available, including services and incentives designed      to help income-eligible residential customers reduce energy use now and in the long term.

  • WSSC  Water

Effective immediately, WSSC Water will: 

  • Temporarily suspend water service turnoffs for customers directly impacted by the shutdown. 
  • Waive late fees to ease financial pressure for affected federal workers; and 
  • Extend enrollment in the popular Get Current program through November 30. The assistance program helps eligible customers with a delinquent balance as of June 1, 2025, by offering forgiveness of a portion of the balance.
